Mumbai's Thane-Borivali tunnel: India's biggest tunnel-boring machine gets to work

Mumbai just took a big step toward easier commutes—MMRDA has lowered India's largest Tunnel Boring Machine to dig the Thane-Borivali twin tunnel.
This 11.84km project will run right under Sanjay Gandhi National Park, connecting Thane and Borivali with three lanes each.
Tunneling is likely to start in early 2026.
