Navi Mumbai airport opens December 25: Here's what you need to know
Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is officially opening for commercial flights on December 25, 2024.
After passing key readiness trials, the airport will operate for 12 hours daily (8am to 8pm) during its first month, with plans to scale up operations.
Real-world trial runs and 1st flights
To make sure everything works smoothly, hundreds of volunteers tested out check-in, security, boarding, and baggage claims in late November.
NMIA will kick off with 23 scheduled daily departures in its first month as it ramps up operations.
Digital-first vibes and launch airlines
IndiGo, Air India Express, and Akasa Air are the first airlines flying from NMIA. The very first flight—IndiGo from Bengaluru—lands at 8am on opening day.
NMIA stands out as India's first fully digital airport with facial recognition check-ins (DigiYatra), AI-powered automation, smart baggage tracking, and a passenger app for touch-free travel.
