NCR to get 4 greenfield 'Namo Cities' to ease overcrowding
India
The National Capital Region (NCR) is about to get four fresh, greenfield cities (dubbed "Namo Cities") as part of a big plan to keep up with the region's booming population.
This move, discussed by top leaders like Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal, aims to spread out development so existing cities don't get overwhelmed.
States bid for ₹5,000cr NCR plan
With NCR's urban population expected to jump from 57% in 2031 to 67% by 2041, these new cities are meant to offer better infrastructure and more opportunities.
There's a ₹5,000 crore budget for the project, and Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan will compete for the chance to host them.
The goal? More balanced growth across NCR, not just crowding into Delhi.
