No penalties for late Waqf property registration, says Kiren Rijiju

India

If you're a mutawalli (caretaker) who missed the December 5, 2025, deadline to register Waqf properties on the UMEED portal, don't stress—Union Minister Kiren Rijiju just announced there won't be any penalties for delays over the next three months.
The Supreme Court kept the original deadline, but despite requests from MPs and community leaders to push it back, no official extension was given.

What happens next?

So far, over 1.5 lakh Waqf properties have been registered online, but plenty are still pending.
If you need more time, Rijiju suggests applying through the Waqf Tribunal—which can grant up to six extra months under the new 2025 law.
Parliament can't change these rules right now, so this tribunal process is your best option if you're running behind.
