Over 17 lakh deceased voters still on Gujarat's voter list

India

Gujarat's big voter roll clean-up just uncovered a major issue: over 17 lakh people who've passed away are still listed as voters.
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR), running from November 4 to December 11, is checking records across the state, with most districts already done distributing forms.
Digitization is still ongoing and only completed in a small fraction of constituencies. Certain constituencies in Banaskantha and Rajkot have wrapped up this process early.

What else did they find?

The revision also spotted more than 6 lakh voters not living at their registered addresses, plus over 30 lakh who have moved away for good.
On top of that, about 3.25 lakh people are registered more than once.
Dang district stands out for its speedy digitization—already hitting a 94% completion rate.
This whole effort aims to make sure only eligible voters are on the rolls before future elections.
