Palghar builder's suicide: Two policemen arrested

India

Jayaprakash Chavan, a builder from Nalasopara, died by suicide on July 1.
In his note, he accused two local police constables and a broker of harassing him over a ₹33 lakh loan—claiming they pressured him to hand over four flats instead of repaying the money.
Chavan also wrote that his construction project was taken away and given to someone else without his consent, which added to his distress.

Case registered against constables

At first, police treated Chavan's death as accidental. But after his family stepped in with a formal complaint, the case was upgraded.
The two constables have now been arrested for abetment of suicide and criminal intimidation under new legal codes.
Authorities are still digging into how the property transfers happened and what role harassment played in Chavan's tragic decision.
