Gujarat-teacher forces boys to wear bangles for not doing homework

A primary school teacher in Mehsana district of Gujarat has been sent on indefinite leave after he forced three boys to "wear kangan (bangles)" for not doing their homework. The incident took place in Government Primary School Number 3 in Kheralu Taluka on Thursday but got attention only after their parents complained on Saturday. Here's what went down.

Teacher asked girls to give bangles to boys, shamed them

The teacher identified as Manubhai Prajapati was miffed when three boys of Class 6 didn't do their homework. In a bid to "shame the kids", he asked girl students in the class to hand over the bangles. Prajapati made the boys don the bangles as "mark of shame". According to an Indian Express report, the boys skipped school after this incident.

Subsequently, parents said boys aren't willing to attend school anymore

The boys didn't attend school on Friday and Saturday, forcing their parents to approach the state education department. The guardians revealed their children don't want to attend school anymore. Taking cognizance of the complaint, a probe was ordered. Commenting on the incident, Kalpana Chowdhary, Taluka Education Officer, Kheralu, Mehsana, said the teacher has been sent on leave.

Another official also promised action against the teacher

"A detailed report will be sent after the statements of the parents are recorded. We will take action against the teacher if found guilty. Both parents and their kids have been called to school today," Smita Patel, district education officer, said.
