Railways revise basic fare for passenger services
Heads up if you travel by train—Indian Railways is updating its ticket prices starting July 1, 2025.
The goal is to make pricing simpler and help keep the system running smoothly.
These changes come after a new fare table was rolled out.
Ordinary non-AC, mail/express, and AC classes
If you're taking an ordinary non-AC train for under 500km, your fare stays the same.
For longer trips, expect a small bump: ₹5 more for 501-1500km, ₹10 extra for 1501-2500km, and ₹15 more if you're going up to 3000km.
Mail/Express non-AC classes go up by just 1 paisa per km, while AC tickets get pricier by two paisa per km.
Premium trains
The price hike also covers popular premium trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Vande Bharat.
But don't worry—suburban single journey fares, season tickets, reservation charges, and superfast surcharges aren't changing.
New rates apply only to tickets booked on or after July 1
New rates apply only to tickets booked on or after July 1, 2025. If you book before that date, you'll pay the old price.
Indian Railways is updating its booking systems so everyone gets clear info about the new fares right at the station.
