Asaram's son, rape convict Narayan Sai, sentenced to life imprisonment

A Sessions Court in Gujarat's Surat has sentenced Narayan Sai, the son of self-proclaimed godman Asaram, to life imprisonment on Tuesday. He was found guilty in a rape case. Last week, Sai was convicted by the court on the charges of rape, unnatural offenses, assault, criminal intimidation, and criminal conspiracy. The court also imposed Rs. 1 lakh fine on him. The court had convicted Sai, the son of rape convict Asaram, of raping two sisters in Surat. The case against him was reportedly filed by his former woman devotee in 2013. Sai had been in jail since December 2013.

The court also awarded a jail term of 10 years each to Sai's close aides Ganga, Jamuna, and Hanuman and imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 on each of them. In the case, Sai's aides were found guilty of being a part of the conspiracy. Sai's driver Rajkumar was also held guilty by the court under Section 212 (harboring an offender) of the IPC.
Narayan Sai was convicted by the court on Friday under the Sections 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural offenses), 323 (assault), 506-2 (criminal intimidation), and 120-B (conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
In 2013, after Asaram was arrested for raping a minor in Rajasthan, two sisters from Surat had accused both Sai and his father of sexual exploitation. The elder sister accused Asaram of sexual assaults between 1997-2006 when she was living at his Ahmedabad ashram. The younger sister accused Sai of sexual assaults between 2002-05 when she lived at his Surat ashram.
Sai had evaded arrest but was finally arrested by the Delhi Police in December 2013 from Punjab-Haryana border. Meanwhile, Asaram is currently lodged in Jodhpur prison where he is serving a life sentence for raping a minor in Manai village near Jodhpur in August 2013.
