Rs.75 coin to be launched to mark first-ever Trilcolor hoisting
On Wednesday, the Modi government announced that it would issue a special Rs. 75 coin to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the first-ever hoisting of the Tricolor by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose at Port Blair. A notification in this regard has already been sent by the Ministry of Finance. Here's what we know about the coin.
On December 30, 1943, legendary Indian freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose hoisted the Indian Tricolor for the first time at the Cellular Jail in Port Blair.
The 35 gram coin will bear an inscription of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose saluting the Tricolor in the background of the Cellular Jail. The inscriptions '75th' and 'anniversary' will be depicted below the portrait. Additionally, there will be an inscription in both English and Devanagari script, which will read 'First Flag Hoisting Day'.
In terms of composition, the special Rs. 75 coin will be composed of 50% silver, 40% copper, and 5% each of nickel and zinc.
Earlier, on October 21, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had hoisted the Indian Tricolor at the Red Fort to pay his respects to Netaji. Modi had also launched a special plaque to mark the 75th anniversary of the formation of the Azad Hind Government, also formed by Netaji, on October 21, 1943.
