Safer, smarter, faster: All you need to know about India's new e-passport
India just launched biometric e-passports under the Passport Seva Program 2.0, aiming to make travel smoother and more secure for everyone.
Announced by External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar, this move is a big step in Digital India's push to modernize services.
After successful trials in select cities, these e-passports are now available across the country.
How biometric e-passports will make travel easier
Each e-passport packs an encrypted RFID chip that stores your fingerprints and personal details.
This means you can breeze through immigration with contactless checks—faster lines and less hassle.
The passports also meet global standards (ICAO), so they're recognized worldwide.
Plus, police verification is now much quicker—just 5-7 days in 25 States/UTs thanks to the mPassport Police App.
Enhanced security with encrypted RFID chip
The RFID chip securely sends your info to immigration readers for instant ID checks.
With strong encryption and tamper-proof tech, it's tough for anyone to fake or misuse your data—so you can travel with extra peace of mind.
