SC grants bail to man accused of impersonating Amit Shah's nephew

India

Ajay Kumar Nayyar, who was accused of scamming a businessman out of ₹3.9 crore by pretending to be the Home Minister's nephew, is out on bail after spending over four years in custody.
The alleged con was about promising a huge government leather tender—first pitched at ₹90 crore and later bumped up to ₹127 crore—for work at the President's Estate.

Why did the Supreme Court grant bail?

The Supreme Court said Nayyar had already been behind bars for over half the maximum sentence for his alleged crime, which is seven years.
Earlier, the Delhi High Court had refused him bail because of how serious the charges were and possible forgery allegations that could mean life in prison.
Even though government lawyers argued there's a bigger scam and other cases pending against him (with only one witness questioned so far), the top court decided he should wait for his trial outside jail.
