SC hears petitions on voter list revision timing

India

The Supreme Court is currently hearing petitions from leaders in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal who are worried about the timing and logistics of a big update to voter lists, called the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
Parties like DMK, CPI(M), Congress, and Trinamool Congress say local events and infrastructure issues could make things messy for voters.
Senior lawyer Kapil Sibal brought these concerns to the court.

Court's stance on voter list revision

Instead of pausing the whole revision process, Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi are pushing for practical fixes under proper constitutional checks.
They're making it clear: unless there's solid proof that voters are being seriously affected—not just inconvenienced—objections might not hold up.
The goal is to keep elections efficient but also fair for everyone on the rolls.
