SC to decide if women lawyers get POSH Act protection

India

The Supreme Court is set to review whether women lawyers should be covered by the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, after the Bombay High Court said the law only applies where there's an employer-employee relationship—leaving advocates out.
Women lawyers say this gap means they don't have proper legal protection or ways to address harassment at work.

Why does it matter?

Right now, complaints from women lawyers are handled under a different law that doesn't really cover sexual harassment or protect interns and researchers.
While the Bar Council of Delhi has set up its own POSH Committee, protections for women in law vary a lot depending on where you work.
The Supreme Court's decision could finally bring equal and safer workplaces for women across India's legal profession.
