Sikkim flags off Kailash Mansarovar yatra with 44 pilgrims
The 2026 Kailash Mansarovar Yatra began this Saturday, as 44 pilgrims set out from Sikkim and crossed into China through the Nathu La Pass.
The flag off was led by Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur, with Tourism Minister Tshering Thendup Bhutia also present.
Organized by the Ministry of External Affairs, this annual journey is a major spiritual event for Hindus, Jains, and Buddhists across India.
Pilgrims aged 30 to 70 grateful
Pilgrims range in age from 30 to 70 and come from states like Maharashtra, Haryana, and Tamil Nadu.
Sikkim officials made sure everything was ready (medical checks done, roads prepped, and customs cleared) so the group could focus on their spiritual trek.
Many participants shared their gratitude for the government support; one called it a "wonderful" experience that makes the yatra accessible to people all over India.
