The Supreme Court has told the government to take another look at why climate activist Sonam Wangchuk is being held under the National Security Act.
Wangchuk, who was arrested after protests in Leh for Ladakh's statehood last September, is reportedly in poor health.
His wife says his detention violates his basic rights.

Govt says Wangchuk incited violence

The government argues that Wangchuk encouraged violence during the protests, which led to casualties, and that his influence justifies keeping him detained.
But the Supreme Court isn't convinced—the judges pointed out legal gaps in how he was detained and reminded officials that strong reasons are needed for such actions under the NSA.
