Southern Railway rolls out special trains for the holidays
Traveling this Christmas or New Year? Southern Railway is launching special trains across southern India in December 2025 and January 2026 to help handle the festive rush.
The goal: make it easier for everyone to get home or away for the holidays without the usual travel chaos.
What's running and when?
Special trains will connect Nagercoil and Madgaon on select Tuesdays (Dec 23, Dec 30, Jan 6), with return trips on Wednesdays.
There's also a new Sunday service from Mangaluru Junction to Thiruvananthapuram starting December 7, plus Monday returns.
Extra trains are set between Sirpur Kaghaznagar, Charlapalli, Hazur Sahib Nanded, and Kollam through early January.
Why does it matter?
More trains mean more seats—so less crowding and better chances of getting a confirmed ticket during peak season.
If you're planning holiday travel in southern India, these extra services could make your trip way smoother.
