Supreme Court questions high court and Tamil Nadu government
The Supreme Court has raised eyebrows over the Madras High Court's move to arrest senior police officer HM Jayaram in a messy family dispute case.
Jayaram was suspended and while his anticipatory bail plea was under consideration, even though the judges noted he'd been cooperating with investigators.

Jayaram was accused—alongside ex-cop Maheswari and MLA Poovai Jagan Moorthy—of plotting to annul a marriage, which led to the kidnapping of the groom's minor brother (who was later found in Jayaram's official car).
After his arrest, the Supreme Court stepped in and released him, also suggesting that suspending such a senior officer might need another look.
