Tap water in parts of Delhi unsafe to drink: Report
India
Delhi's tap water isn't as safe as many might hope.
A recent Hindustan Times investigation tested 18 samples from neighborhoods with frequent complaints and found that nearly half didn't meet basic safety standards, meaning there were signs of bacteria like E. coli, which can point to contamination.
Contamination likely due to old, leaky pipes
Interestingly, all the contaminated samples came from domestic taps in places like Rajouri Garden and Chilla village, while public sources such as Delhi Jal Board tankers were clean.
Experts say this points to old, leaky pipes in some areas (many over 30 years old) that need urgent repairs to keep drinking water safe for everyone.
