What's the story

The Uttarakhand Police has apprehended five individuals, including two drivers and a cashier employed at the Dehradun Interstate Bus Terminal (ISBT), in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a teenage girl. The incident took place on August 12 inside a government bus parked at the terminal, but was only reported to authorities on Saturday. The victim, who is mentally unstable, was discovered alone late at night on a bench at the Dehradun ISBT.

The victim initially told the police that she is an orphan from Punjab, but later revealed information about her family. She also disclosed that she is a resident of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh and had first traveled to Delhi before taking a bus to Dehradun, where the alleged rape occurred. One of the accused, Devendra, admitted to seeing the girl at Kashmiri Gate ISBT in Delhi and suggested she take a bus to Dehradun en route to Punjab.

Accused allegedly raped victim after passengers disembarked

After the bus arrived in Dehradun and all passengers had disembarked, Devendra and driver Dharmendra allegedly raped the teenager. Two other drivers - Ravi and Rajpal - of buses parked nearby also learned about this and allegedly raped her. The cashier was informed about the incident while collecting money, after which he too allegedly assaulted the girl on the bus. The victim has undergone a medical examination with results pending, while two buses have been sent for forensic investigation.

Police identify and arrest five suspects

The accused have been identified as Dharmendra Kumar (32) and Rajpal (57), both from Buggawala in Haridwar district; Devendra (52), from Bhagwanpur in Haridwar; Rajesh Kumar Sonkar (38), a resident of Dehradun; and Ravi Kumar (34) from Nawabganj in Farrukhabad district of Uttar Pradesh. The police have contacted the victim's family and discovered that her parents are alive. They were also informed that she had previously run away from home without notifying anyone.
