Jharkhand: Mother of newborn become first beneficiary of Ayushman Bharat

Punam Mahato has become the first beneficiary of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) in Jharkhand after giving birth to a baby girl at a hospital in Jamshedpur, minutes after the scheme was rolled out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ranchi. The baby was delivered by caesarian section at 1:10 pm yesterday at the Sadar Hospital in East Singbhum district. Here's more.

PMJAY provides coverage of Rs. 5L per family annually

The PMJAY, stated to be the world's largest government-funded healthcare scheme, aims to provide to more than 10.74cr poor families a coverage of Rs. 5L per family annually. The Center will contribute 60% to the scheme, while the states will contribute 40%.

Mahato's entire medical expense would be borne by authorities

As part of the scheme, the entire medical expense of 24-year-old Mahato would be borne by authorities including the expense for the delivery, i.e., Rs. 18,500, confirmed East Singhbhum district Civil Surgeon, Dr. Maheshwar Prasad. The resident of Basurda village, who was admitted to the hospital yesterday morning, has also been provided all the services, including food, medicines, consultation, and pathological test, for free.
