Two dropped cockroach in Indira Canteen meal for 'publicity', arrested

Karnataka police have arrested two men for allegedly dropping a cockroach in a meal served at Indira Canteen for 'publicity'. Hemanth and Devraj, both autorickshaw drivers, were nabbed when the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) lodged a complaint against them. "During interrogation they revealed that they did it to seek publicity," a police official said.

The two men planned the act in advance

On October 20, Hemranth and Devraj visited the Canteen at Kamakshipalya with two others. When they 'found' a cockroach in the food, they threatened the workers and created a ruckus. But footage showed Hemanth having brought it from outside and putting it in the food. Devraj knew this but supported him, police said. They aren't affiliated to any party, they have claimed.

Allegations of poor and insufficient food hit Indira Canteens

Since the flagship Indira Canteens were launched two months ago, there have been allegations of low-quality and insufficient food. When Karnataka Congress President G Parameshwara conducted a random check at the Canteen in Ganganagar, he found no breakfast left despite reaching on time. In spite of such complaints, the plan is to set up Canteens in 246 district and taluk headquarters.
