Understanding the International Big Cat Alliance

India

India just kicked off the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), bringing together countries to help protect seven iconic big cats—tiger, lion, leopard, snow leopard, cheetah, jaguar, and puma.
Announced in March 2024 and led by Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, the alliance had its first meeting in New Delhi in June 2024.

IBCA invites 95 range countries to save big cats

The IBCA is all about teamwork: 95 range countries are invited (with 25 already on board) to share ideas and resources for saving big cats and their habitats.
With India home to over 70% of the world's tigers—and facing threats like deforestation and poaching—this move builds on past successes like Project Tiger and aims to make a real difference for wildlife everywhere.
