Protest march: Woman Congress worker alleges molestation by male colleagues

    What's the story

A woman Congress worker has complained to Congress's Mumbai unit that she was allegedly molested by male colleagues on Sunday during a candle march held at Juhu to protest against the Kathua and Unnao rape cases.

Unit Chief Sanjay Nirupam promised to take action against those found guilty.

The woman was a district-level party worker and texted to Nirupam about the incident.

    Here's more.

    Message

Woman's text message to Congress unit Chief

In her message, the woman said, "Workers of Youth Congress and NSUI stooped to such low level that they touched, pushed, and shoved women workers in an inappropriate manner."

"Sadly, they did this to only get ahead...so that their faces were captured by media. I want to know if women workers will be safe in similar events held in future," the woman added.

    Unfortunate incident

Impossible to identify accused because of too much crowd: Woman

Nirupam said, "This incident is very unfortunate and I condemn it," adding that action would be taken against the involved persons if the woman identifies them.

"I told her that if she wished (we) would help her file police cases against the accused. But she told me there was too much crowd, so it won't be possible for her to identify them," he added.

    Dos and don'ts

Congress to issue dos and don'ts for future protest marches

Nirupam said the woman enthusiastically participates in all dharnas and morchas organized by the city unit.

"She does not participate alone but brings along with her over a dozen women members. I have apologized to her for the agony she had to suffer on Sunday," he added.

He said he will issue the dos and don'ts to be followed during the protest marches.
