A portion of an under-construction flyover near Bomikhal in Odisha's capital, Bhubaneswar, collapsed today killing at least one man, and injuring at least 11, said official sources. Around 15 labourers were at work on the flyover, when it collapsed. As of now, three to four people are suspected to be trapped underneath the rubble. Rescue operations are currently underway.

Details of the ongoing rescue operations

The injured have been rushed to the Capital Hospital, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, and several other hospitals. The police, the fire brigade, and the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) have been deployed to carry out rescue efforts. Earth movers are being used for removing rubble quickly. The rescue operations are being monitored by Police Commissioner Y. B. Khurania and other senior officials.

Naveen Patnaik promises to investigate and punish

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik expressed grief and rage over the incident. He announced a Rs. 5 lakh compensation package for the next of kin of the deceased, and said that the injured would be treated free of cost. He also promised an "exemplary punishment" for those found guilty for the mishap. The project was under Panda Infrastructure. Two engineers have already been suspended.
