    Youngest organ donor in Western-India gives life to three-year-old girl
  • A 14-month-old toddler from Gujarat's Surat has become the youngest organ donor in Western India after his heart was transplanted to a three-and-a-half-year-old girl from Navi Mumbai.

    The toddler, who suffered an injury while playing, was declared brain-dead.

    The recipient had been waiting for a donor since she was two.

    The heart transplant was successfully done at Fortis Hospital in Mulund.

  • The toddler had suffered a fall when he was playing; doctors subsequently declared him brain-dead in Surat.

    His heart was transported to Mumbai through a green corridor on a commercial flight, covering the 332km distance in one hour and 25 minutes.

    Dr. Anvay Mulay, Fortis Hospital's Head of Cardiac Transplant team, said the organ recipient was on a ventilator but would slowly start speaking.

  • The organ recipient's mother, Pratibha Mule, said: "We are thankful to the parents of the toddler who donated his heart. She is still (in) unconscious state but is doing fine. We have been creating awareness through social media to get a heart for our daughter."
