Abhishek Banerjee's house attacked, allegedly by BJP workers
What's the story
Trinamool Congress (TMC) National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has alleged that his house was attacked by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers at around 2:00am. He accused the Kolkata Police of not intervening in the incident and claimed this was the seventh attempt on his life in six months. He also slammed the judiciary for its inaction over these alleged attacks.
Allegations unfold
Attack occurred after I released recce video: Banerjee
Banerjee alleged that the attack came soon after he released a video showing unidentified persons conducting reconnaissance of his office and residence.
"After I released the recce video this morning, my house was attacked just now, at 2am by BJP goons, right under the watch of the Kolkata police," he said in a post on social media platform X.
Video evidence
'If this can happen to an MP...'
Banerjee also shared video footage of the alleged attack on social media. He claimed that BJP workers attacked his residence after conducting reconnaissance for two days.
Despite repeated threats to his life, he alleged no action was taken by the police or the judiciary.
"If this is what can happen to an elected Member of Parliament, imagine the plight of the common man in WB," he said in another post.
Surveillance concerns
Unverified persons surveilling office, residence
Earlier on Friday, Banerjee had alleged that unidentified persons had been surveilling his office and residence for two days.
He said these persons identified themselves as police personnel when confronted.
Questioning this alleged surveillance, Banerjee asked who gave the state police permission to monitor an elected MP's premises and why.
"Why is the State Police allegedly spying on and snooping around the office and residence of an elected Member of Parliament?" he asked.
