'Biting ones sitting inside': Congress MP brings dog to Parliament
What's the story
Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Renuka Chowdhury has courted controversy after she brought a puppy to the Parliament premises. The incident happened on the first day of the winter session when Chowdhury arrived with the dog. She later sent the puppy back home in her car. Defending her actions, Chowdhury said she picked up the puppy after finding it near a collision site on her way to work, fearing it might get hit.
Defense and criticism
Chowdhury defends her actions, BJP criticizes
Chowdhury defended her decision to bring the puppy, asking if there was any law against it. She stated that there was no use in addressing this and that the real ones who bite "are sitting in Parliament." "The real ones who bite are sitting in Parliament. They run the government. We take care of a mute animal, and this has become a big issue and a topic of discussion," she said.
BJP
BJP calls comparison an 'insult'
Calling it an "insult," Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala slammed Chowdhury. "Renuka Chaudhary has insulted Parliament and MPs. She brings a dog to Parliament, and when asked about it, she says that those who bite are inside. That means the Parliament, Parliamentary staff, and the MPs. They are dogs, in her opinion. She has in the past also insulted our jawans when she mocked Operation Mahadev and Operation Sindoor," said Poonawala.
Session disruption
Parliamentary session adjourned amid protests
BJP MP Jagdambika Pal also slammed the Congress leader. "Special privileges do not allow anyone to flout rules or bring pets into the House. There must be accountability," he was quoted as saying by India Today. The first day of the Winter Session of the Parliament was marred by disruptions, with the Lok Sabha adjourned for the day amid protests by opposition parties primarily over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
