Pune engineer wants to be next Congress President

    What's the story

Ever since Rahul Gandhi resigned as President of the Indian National Congress in May, the position has remained vacant.

With the Congress failing to pick a new party chief to replace Gandhi, a 28-year-old electronics engineer from Pune has decided to step up and take up the mantle.

Gajanand Hosale is planning to submit his application to Congress' city unit president on Tuesday.

    Information

    Who is Gajanand Hosale?

Hosale currently works as a sales and services manager with Light Mechanics Ltd., a Bengaluru-based firm that manufactures laser cutting and marking machines. He has a diploma in electronics engineering from Government Polytechnic, Bidar, Karnataka, which is affiliated to the Directorate of Technical Education.

    Politics

Hosale claims to have no background in politics

However, when it comes to politics, Hosale is a complete newbie.

He told PTI that he has never worked in the field of politics before and hasn't even worked towards any social causes with an organization.

However, he said, that as a person from a rural background, he has crossed with officials many times before.

Hosale isn't even a primary member of the Congress.

    Quote

"I'm sure I'll revive the party from the current crisis"

"Before applying for the President's position on Tuesday, I'll complete the procedure of primary membership of the party," Hosale told PTI.

On why he's gunning for the Congress President post as opposed to working as a party worker, he said the latter can be sidelined.

"I'm sure I'll revive the party from the current crisis as I have a blueprint for it," he said.

    Beliefs

Hosale said Congress needs young leaders

Hosale believes that India can become a welfare state if we focus on the doctrines of German philosopher and economist Karl Marx, Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.

He said, "As (Rahul) Gandhi said that the party needs young leadership, I feel the party needs a president who's not only young by age, but also at heart and in terms of thinking as well."

    Application

Congress in great confusion on new chief: Hosale

"As Rahul Gandhi is firm on his decision to step down as the President of the Congress, the party is in a great confusion whom to appoint the new chief and in such a scenario, I wish to file my nomination for the post," Hosale said.

The Congress has been flailing with Gandhi's resignation with many leaders across states deserting the party.
