Congress denies reports of Maken resigning as Delhi Party Chief

Earlier in the day, it was reported that Ajay Maken, the Delhi Congress chief, had resigned from his post over health issues. However, if reports are to be believed, his resignation which was sent to the Congress President Rahul Gandhi's office has not been accepted yet. Maken, who reportedly, informed Gandhi about his intentions and deteriorating health, has possibly left abroad for treatment.

This is what Congress have to say

Amid all chaos, Congress has denied all reports of Maken's resignation and said he has only gone abroad for a check-up. The party also clarified that Maken recently attended a meeting with party President Rahul Gandhi and party in-charge of Delhi affairs, PC Chacko.

Maken has been leading Congress in Delhi since 2015

Maken, a senior Congress politician, has been elected twice as an MP, and thrice to the Delhi Legislative Assembly. Further, he has led the Delhi Congress Committee as its President since 2015. Maken was also appointed as the Speaker of Legislative Assembly at Delhi in 2004 and later replaced MS Gill as the Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs in 2011.

Maken doesn't want Congress to join hands with AAP

Notably, in the past few months, Maken has been at odds with the Congress leadership over the possibility of its potential tie-up with Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party. He has been opposing any association with AAP, ahead of the 2019 polls.
