BR Ambedkar becomes Bhimrao 'Ramji' Ambedkar in UP

In a surprising move, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to include 'Ramji' in BR Ambedkar's name in all official documents. CM Yogi Adityanath issued a diktat asking all officials to use the name Bhimrao 'Ramji' Ambedkar in correspondences. The Samajwadi Party obviously accused the ruling BJP of using Baba Saheb's name to show they are pro-dalit.

What's with the name changing though?

UP governor Ram Naik explained the move, "I am a Marathi and so was he (Ambedkar). Hindi speaking states have been writing his name incorrectly. Most importantly his name is written as Bhim Rao as two words, however, the correct way to write is Bhimrao."

Opposition calls it dirty politics, BJP refutes claims

Sunil Sajan of SP said BJP is scared of BSP-SP alliance and is retorting to such moves. He said, "BJP always comes up with new issues as soon as they realize their failure." However, cabinet minister Swami Prasad Maurya said there was no ulterior motive, and it shouldn't be seen as one. Chances of this move gaining mileage before 2019 Elections are high.
