Manmohan, Sonia meet Chidambaram in Tihar. 'Honored', says jailed leader
Lodged in Tihar jail since September 5, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram was visited by Sonia Gandhi and Dr. Manmohan Singh on Monday morning. With their visit, UPA Chairperson, Gandhi, and former Prime Minister, Dr. Singh have indicated that Congress is standing with its veteran, who is being probed for corruption by both Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED). Here's more.
Karti also met his father in Tihar
This is the first time that Gandhi and Dr. Singh visited the infamous prison facility to pay a visit to any party leader lodged there. Chidambaram's son, Karti, a Congress MP from Sivaganga, also visited him. Karti is also an accused in INX Media case, which sent his father to jail. Chidambaram is accused of facilitating illegal FDI into the company as FM.
According to Karti, the duo discussed economy with Chidambaram
After the meeting, Karti said, "Sonia Gandhi had told me that we are together. They have conveyed the same message to my father. This meeting has encouraged my family. The meeting was only with my father. They inquired my father's health and spoke on economy."
As long as Congress is strong, I am strong: Chidambaram
On his part, Chidambaram also expressed gratitude towards the leaders. In a tweet, he wrote, "I am honored that Smt. Sonia Gandhi and Dr. Manmohan Singh called on me today. As long as the @INCIndiaparty is strong and brave, I will also be strong and brave (sic). He also took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech in Houston, United States.
Chidambaram asked how is everything fine in India
In the mega-rally, which was also attended by US President Donald Trump, PM Modi said all is fine in India and the country is taking huge steps towards development. Slamming this, Chidambaram wrote everything is perfect in the country "except for unemployment, loss of existing jobs, lower wages, mob violence, lockdown in Kashmir and throwing Opposition leaders in prison."

Congress has been crying conspiracy for quite some time now
Since Chidambaram's dramatic arrest on August 21, Congress has maintained that he has become a victim of political vendetta. The probing agencies, however, have contested this. Opposing his bail pleas in courts, CBI and ED said if he is released, Chidambaram might flee or influence the investigation. On this, the 74-year-old leader recently said that he is "thrilled" to learn these thoughts.

"I am thrilled to discover that , according to some people, I will grow golden wings and fly away to the moon . I hope I will have a safe landing."
He will stay in Tihar till October 3
On Thursday (September 19), Chidambaram was produced before a special court in connection to his bail plea. Rejecting his request for freedom, the court directed that he should be kept in Tihar till October 3. The court accepted Chidambaram's demand for a chair and a pillow, in absence of which he developed back pain, he said. His request for a medical examination was also approved.
