Muslims would keep having more kids: MP on Assam's two-child-policy
  • Recently, the Assam government, led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), announced that those having more than two children will not be eligible for government jobs.

This law will be implemented from 2021, but it has already found detractors.

Slamming the move, Lok Sabha MP Maulana Badruddin Ajmal said Muslims will continue producing more kids, and no law can be imposed on them.

    Here's more.

Ajmal said Muslims aren't getting government jobs anyway According to Ajmal, it's not good to "tamper with nature" Muslims should produce kids and educate them: Ajmal Why don't RSS, BJP come on same page, he asked He also reminded PM Modi is the fifth child Separately, Congress leader said the decision is undemocratic Subsequently, Swamy asked Ajmal if his wife agrees with him

Ajmal said Muslims aren't getting government jobs anyway
  • On Monday, Ajmal, who heads the minority-based All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) said Muslims will not listen to anyone and continue to have more children.

"The government is bringing in a law to stop Muslims from getting jobs. However, the Sachar committee report suggests less than 2 per cent Muslims get government jobs," he was quoted by NIE.

According to Ajmal, it's not good to "tamper with nature"

  • "Not just our religion (Islam), even I personally believe that those who want to come will come and none can stop it...It is not good to tamper with nature," he said.

  • Plans

Muslims should produce kids and educate them: Ajmal

  • Further, Ajmal said Muslims should have kids and educate them so that they can run businesses or open shops to create job opportunities.

They can also provide jobs to their Hindu brothers and sisters, he added.

Taking a jibe at BJP and its ideological mentor RSS, Ajmal said they must first decide what they want as the latter encourages people to produce more kids.

Why don't RSS, BJP come on same page, he asked

  • Ajmal said, "On one hand, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat asks people to bear eight to ten children while on the other, the government says those with more than two children will not be eligible for government jobs. First, they should decide they want."

He also reminded PM Modi is the fifth child
  • Not stopping at that, he said if people don't have more kids then perhaps India won't have PMs or CMs.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi is himself a fifth child in his family while Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal is the eighth child... If their parents had stopped having children, they would not have been born," Ajmal said as per ANI.

  • Congress' stand

Separately, Congress leader said the decision is undemocratic

  • As it turns out, Ajmal isn't the only one who disagrees with this policy.

Calling the decision of Sonowal government undemocratic, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora said, "Nobody can impose two-child policy on anyone. Let us expand education in a massive way and spread awareness so that everybody spontaneously accepts the two-child policy."

He said everyone's beliefs should be respected.

  • Quote

Subsequently, Swamy asked Ajmal if his wife agrees with him

  • Reacting to Ajmal's words, BJP's Subramanian Swamy asked if his wife thinks the same. "Does his wife or wives also agree on producing 7-8 children each? Women's opinion also matters because they go through nine months of pain and anxiety," he reportedly said.
