Vijay gets permission for December 18 rally with 84 conditions

The police in Erode, Tamil Nadu, have granted permission for TVK chief Vijay's election rally on December 18. The approval comes with a set of 84 conditions to ensure law and order during the event. Organizers are required to pay a security deposit of ₹50,000 and ensure that the venue is restored to its original condition after the rally.

Rally venue and NOC issuance
The rally is scheduled to take place between 11:00am and 1:00pm at Vijayamangalam, near Erode. The site is a 16-acre private temple land managed by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department (HR&CE). Initially, the HR&CE department had not issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the event. However, after Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam representatives met with temple authorities on Sunday, an NOC was granted to police.

Erode Superintendent of Police A Sujatha and police personnel then inspected the venue, giving their nod for the meeting. Earlier, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief coordinator K A Sengottaiyan had said that preparations were on for the public meeting. He had also visited the site near Vijayamangalam tollgate where party workers started cleaning in anticipation of permission.

Karur stampede
The conditions were imposed following a stampede at his rally in September that killed over 40 people. Vijay had visited Karur, Tamil Nadu, on September 27 as part of a nationwide trip to campaign for the 2026 election. According to state police, approximately 30,000 people gathered at a 10,000-capacity arena. A rush broke out that evening, killing at least 41 people and injuring more than 60.
