Amazon's launching 27 satellites this week—here's what to know

Technology

Amazon is sending 27 new LEO satellites into space on December 15, teaming up with United Launch Alliance (ULA) for a pre-dawn launch at Cape Canaveral, Florida.
This is all part of Project Kuiper, Amazon's big plan to bring fast internet to more people around the world using a huge network of satellites.

How can you catch the launch?

You can watch it live online—just head to Space.com, ULA's website, or floridatoday.com/space.
If you're up early and skies are clear, you might even spot the rocket from Florida as far north as parts of Michigan and New York as it heads northeast.

Why does this matter?

This is Amazon's seventh operational launch for Kuiper and will bring their total satellite count to 180.
The end goal? Over 3,000 satellites circling Earth at low altitudes so more people everywhere can get connected—think streaming and video calls in places where internet used to be a struggle.
