Artex AI tool found online in more than 800 instances
More than 800 instances of Artex, an AI-powered hacking tool, have been spotted out in the open on the internet.
Artex launched in July 2026 as an open-source way to scan for system weaknesses, but its easy access has made it a favorite for people who can't get their hands on more advanced cybersecurity tools from big names like Anthropic or OpenAI.
Artex linked to breaches goes closed-source
Artex has already been tied to some major hacks, including a hit on Korea's finance sector and a breach at ConnectWise.
Artex has since announced it would go closed-source, effectively limiting further releases for paid customers.
Still, copies of the code are floating around online, raising concerns about ongoing misuse and whether stricter controls are needed to keep these tools out of the wrong hands.
