AWS outage causes chaos for travelers and app users

Technology

On Monday morning, a big Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage in the US-EAST-1 region caused chaos for travelers and app users.
Delta and United Airlines's websites experienced disruptions, so people couldn't check in or access reservations and seat assignments.
Apps like Coinbase, Venmo, Signal, and even some UK banks and Vodafone also glitched out.

AWS outages have far-reaching consequences

It's not just about missing a flight—so much of what we use every day runs on AWS.
Amazon admitted they were seeing "increased error rates and latencies," and while things started to recover by early morning, some services stayed spotty for hours.
This isn't the first time, either: last year's AWS outage cost Delta over $500 million.
It's a reminder of how much we all rely on cloud platforms—and how messy things get when they go down.
