Building-sized asteroid to fly by Earth in 2025
Heads up: NASA is tracking a big asteroid called 2025 XV, about 290 feet across, flying past Earth on December 18, 2025.
It'll come within about 1.6 million miles—way beyond the Moon's orbit—so there's no risk to us.
NASA says it's too small and too far away to be considered hazardous.
Four more asteroids making a flyby
It's not alone! Four smaller asteroids—2015 XX168, 2025 YG, 2025 XR5, and 2025 XQ5—will also pass by that day.
They're each between roughly 84 and 160 feet wide and will stay at safe distances ranging from about 1.4 million to over 3.6 million miles from Earth.
How you can spot it (and why it matters)
You won't see these with your eyes—they're just too far and faint—but you can follow their journey using NASA's Asteroid Watch online tools.
NASA says tracking these close passes helps scientists improve models for future asteroid monitoring and planetary defense.
