Delhi Police warns Diwali shoppers of phishing, fake gift scams
With Diwali coming up, Delhi Police is reminding everyone to watch out for online scams.
Their cyber advisory points out a rise in phishing links, fake government gift offers (like those viral WhatsApp messages promising ₹8,000), and shady APK files disguised as greeting cards, all targeting people making more digital payments during the festival.
Delhi Police urges reporting to 1930
Fraudsters are also setting up fake shopping sites that look like Amazon and offering unreal discounts to lure you in.
Other common tricks include QR code scams and pretending to be from your bank or a courier service to steal your information.
Police suggest double-checking website URLs, skipping suspicious links, and using cash on delivery for unfamiliar purchases.
If you spot anything fishy, report it right away, call your bank and the National Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930 for help.
