Elon Musk says there's evidence OpenAI is no longer nonprofit
Elon Musk, who helped start OpenAI, is calling out the company for ditching its original nonprofit, open-source vibe.
On a recent podcast, he said there's "a mountain of evidence" that OpenAI was created as an open source nonprofit but has shifted toward making money instead.
Musk's lawsuit against OpenAI
Musk's claims come as he's suing OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman, arguing they broke their own rules by letting founders profit and moving to a for-profit model.
He even tried (and failed) to take control earlier this year with a $97.4 billion offer.
The lawsuit centers on whether OpenAI really stuck to its founding promises.
Musk's initial investment and departure
Musk put in $45 million when OpenAI launched in 2015 but left after disagreements over its direction.
Since then, he hasn't held back on criticizing how the company handles AI ethics and transparency.
