Google replaces Gemini CLI and Code Assist with Antigravity CLI
Google is saying goodbye to its Gemini CLI and Code Assist tools for regular users starting June 18, 2026.
Instead, they are rolling out Antigravity CLI, a new terminal tool built to be faster and share its architecture with the Antigravity 2.0 desktop app.
These changes are all about streamlining how developers work with code.
Gemini Code Assist for GitHub unchanged
Antigravity CLI brings support for complex workflows using features like Agent Skills and Hooks, but it will not cover everything Gemini CLI did.
If you're an enterprise user, though, no worries! You'll still have Gemini Code Assist for GitHub, unchanged, without any interruption.
Google says this shift is part of their bigger push toward smarter, AI-powered development platforms that keep up with what users need now.
