Honor 10 Lite v/s Huawei Y9: 2019's best budget smartphone
In India's over-crowded and price sensitive mid-range smartphone segment, Chinese tech giants Huawei and Honor have launched their respective affordable handsets. Both the camera-centric Huawei Y9 (2019) and budget performer Honor 10 Lite are currently on sale via Amazon and Flipkart, respectively. But which one should you buy? Here's our spec-to-spec comparison.
Up front, Huawei Y9 gets a wider display cutout whereas the Honor 10 Lite adopts the smaller waterdrop notch. However, both the phones feature an edge-to-edge display, slim bottom bezel and glass-like rear-panel (3D design on the Honor handset). On the back, both of them house a vertically-stacked dual rear camera setup and a fingerprint scanner. Winner: Honor 10 Lite for its bezel-less design.
The Honor 10 Lite sports a 6.21-inch full-HD+ (1080x2340 pixels) display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Moreover, with the smaller notch, it boasts of an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 91%. In comparison, the Huawei Y9 features a 6.5-inch (1080x2340 pixels) FullView Display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and around 83% screen-to-body ratio. Winner: Tie because both the displays are similar.
Both Honor 10 Lite and Huawei Y9 share the same rear camera setup comprising a 13MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a 2MP depth sensor. The camera unit also supports PDAF, HDR and comes paired with an LED flash module. Winner: Tie as both the phones share the same camera optics.
Up front, the Huawei Y9 gets a dual camera setup comprising a 16MP main sensor with f/2.0 aperture and a 2MP (f/2.4) depth sensor. On the other hand, the Honor 10 Lite comes with a single 24MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture. Winner: Huawei Y9 for its dedicated secondary sensor.
The Honor 10 Lite is powered by an octa-core Kirin 710 chipset, paired with 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage (expandable upto 512GB). In comparison, the Huawei Y9 comes with the same Kirin 710 processor but with only 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Winner: Again a tie.
Both the phones pack all the standard sensors including a proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, digital compass, gravity sensor, and gyroscope. In terms of software, Honor's offering runs on the latest Android Pie-based EMUI 9 whereas the Huawei Y9 runs an older generation of Android Oreo-based EMUI 8.2. Winner: Honor 10 Lite as it features the latest OS.
In terms of connectivity options, both the handsets support dual-SIMs, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Micro USB, and GPS/A-GPS/GLONASS among others. In terms of battery power, the Honor 10 Lite has a 3,400mAh battery whereas the Huawei Y9 packs a bigger 4,000mAh battery. Winner: Huawei Y9 for offering a bigger battery.
Honor 10 Lite costs Rs. 13,999 for the 4GB RAM variant and Rs. 17,999 for the 6GB RAM model. In comparison, the Huawei Y9 (2019) is priced at Rs. 15,990 for the solo 4GB RAM model.
Both the phones have the same primary cameras, processors, and display resolution. In terms of differences, the Huawei Y9 has a bigger display, dual front camera, and a bigger battery whereas Honor 10 runs the latest OS and offers 6GB RAM option as well. Hence, if you're looking for a selfie-centric phone, buy Huawei Y9. Otherwise, Honor 10 Lite is a good package.
