IISc Bengaluru launches AI healthcare hub

Technology

IISc Bengaluru has recently set up the Translational AI for Networked Universal Healthcare (TANUH) Foundation—an AI Center of Excellence focused on healthcare, backed by the Ministry of Education.
This non-profit aims to build smart, India-made AI tools that actually work for people here.

Why does this matter?

TANUH is all about tackling big health issues like cancer, diabetes, and mental health using AI.
Their tech is designed so frontline health workers can spot problems early and personalize care—while making sure everything's safe and responsible.

Who's driving this?

The center is led by IISc Director Prof. G Rangarajan and a team of nine faculty experts in digital health, machine learning, and public health.
They're joined by engineers and program managers to help turn lab ideas into real-world solutions.

First project already live

TANUH's first tool—Aarogya Aarohan—helps screen for oral cancer using AI.
Built with partners like AIIMS and Biocon Foundation, it even won "Best Education Institute Exhibit" at India Mobile Congress 2024.
