IIT Kanpur professor Shantanu Bhattacharya named NASI Fellow January 2027
Professor Shantanu Bhattacharya from IIT Kanpur has been named a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), a big nod to his work in the design and development of functional materials and their fabrication processes across multiple length scales.
His fellowship officially starts in January 2027, marking a proud moment for both him and the institute.
Directs CSIR labs while researching materials
Bhattacharya's research is all about creating materials used in things like tiny medical devices, advanced sensors, clean-water technology, and energy storage, stuff that actually impacts everyday life.
Alongside teaching at IIT Kanpur, he currently serves as Director of CSIR-Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIR-CSIO), Chandigarh, and also holds the additional charge of Director at CSIR-Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CEERI), Pilani.
The institute gave him a shoutout online for pushing technology forward with real-world impact.
