India temporarily blocks Telegram until June 22 over NEET leaks
Technology
Telegram has been temporarily banned across India until June 22, after leaked NEET exam questions/materials were shared on the app.
The move is meant to stop organized cheating networks ahead of the re-exam on June 21, but it also disrupts over 150 million users, many of whom depend on Telegram for study groups and resources.
Pavel Durov calls ban unfair
Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov called the ban unfair, saying, "The leaks just moved to other apps."
NEET students are affected by the Telegram ban, and the Internet Freedom Foundation agrees, arguing that blocking Telegram hurts regular users more than actual cheaters and doesn't really solve the root problem.
