June Bootid meteor shower returns, peaks June 20 to 27
Heads up, stargazers! The June Bootid meteor shower is back and will peak between June 20 and 27.
While it usually offers just a handful of meteors per hour, it's famous for its surprises, like in 1998, when skywatchers got an unexpected show of up to 100 meteors an hour.
So, you never really know what you'll get!
Bootid from comet 7P/Pons-Winnecke, viewing tips
This shower happens when Earth crosses paths with debris from comet 7P/Pons-Winnecke, with meteors seeming to shoot out from the Bootes constellation in the evening sky.
Some years have been wild (like 2004's burst), others quieter, but that unpredictability is part of the fun.
For your best shot at spotting them, find a dark spot away from city lights and give your eyes about 20 minutes to adjust, then just look up and enjoy whatever happens!
