Jupiter's moons will cast shadows on the planet: How to watch
Heads up, space fans: On November 5, 2025, Jupiter will put on a cool sky show as its moons Io and Europa cast their shadows across the planet.
The action kicks off just after midnight EST, with Jupiter hanging out beneath the bright Gemini stars Castor and Pollux.
You'll need a telescope to catch the shadows gliding over those famous cloud bands.
How to watch the event
For the best view, grab a telescope with at least a 6-inch aperture and zoom in around 100X-150X.
First up, you'll see Io's shadow slide across Jupiter's right side; then Europa's shadow joins in from the left for nearly three hours.
While you're at it, keep an eye out for Ganymede and Callisto—Jupiter's other big moons—since they'll be visible too.
It's a great chance to see why these Galilean moons have fascinated astronomers since Galileo first spotted them!
