Kolkata airport now posts live traffic alerts for travelers
Kolkata's Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (NSCBI Airport) is making it easier to reach your flight on time.
They've started sharing real-time traffic alerts on their X handle, flagging jams, waterlogging, and fog that could slow you down on common routes like Ultadanga, Salt Lake Sector-V, Barasat, and Howrah.
How the alerts actually work
The airport's IT team checks map data every five minutes on weekdays.
If travel times jump by 10-20%, they post an alert—so you'll know if rain, winter fog, a political rally or festival crowds might delay your ride.
On weekends, the checks are a bit less frequent.
Why it matters for flyers
With up to 30,000 passengers arriving at the airport daily to catch flights and 5,000 people visiting to drop off or pick up travelers, foggy winters can cause significant disruptions.
Last winter's fog caused 114 diversions and cost airlines ₹20 crore in rebooking and lost productivity.
The new alerts (plus recent drills for low-visibility landings) aim to help everyone get where they're going with fewer surprises.
