Microsoft to require user ok for AI tools on Windows 11

Starting in 2026, Microsoft will make sure no AI tool can peek at your personal files on Windows 11 without your permission.
This move is all about giving you more control over your data and comes as part of Microsoft's push for "Responsible AI"—putting consent and accountability front and center.

What's new with privacy?

The update means you'll get clear prompts anytime an AI app wants access to sensitive info, so you'll always know what's happening with your data.
These rules will also apply to third-party apps, not just Microsoft's own tools.
Testing kicks off soon through the Windows Insider Program, paving the way for a full rollout in 2026.
