1M+ users have used LinkedIn's 'AI slop' button
What's the story
LinkedIn's new "AI slop" button, announced on July 30, has garnered a lot of attention. The platform's Chief Product Officer, Hari Srinivasan, revealed that over a million users have already made use of the feature. The button can be accessed from the three-dot menu on each post and is part of LinkedIn's effort to tackle AI-generated content on its platform.
Feature introduction
AI slop button introduced after pangram detected AI posts
The "AI slop" button was introduced after Pangram, an AI detector, found that 41% of LinkedIn's long-form posts were completely generated by artificial intelligence.
Along with this new feature, LinkedIn also launched improved classifiers to identify AI-generated posts and removed a feature that would "enhance your post" with AI.
Platform changes
Users are experiencing fewer views on AI slop posts
Srinivasan had previously said that "AI slop is a top priority for all of us." He also noted that the platform's changes might be having a positive effect.
In his latest post, he revealed users are now "experiencing 40% less views on what we classify as AI slop from just a few weeks ago."
This suggests that the new measures are helping to reduce the visibility of AI-generated content.
User notification
New message to alert users creating AI posts
LinkedIn is also adding a new message to alert users who create posts that "Some members told us this post seems like AI."
Srinivasan said they approached this change with good intent, emphasizing the goal is to provide helpful feedback.
The platform had also previously announced plans to crack down on comments created at scale with little or no human involvement.
